PIONEERS OF NEW AGE ARCHITECTURE:

Rudolf Steiner: (1861-1925 Austria)

At the beginning of the twentieth century, he founded a new spiritual movement, Anthroposophy, as an esoteric philosophy. Antroposophic architecture was part of this , and so he became the creator of new architectural forms and introduced what has come to be known as “Organic Architecture” . He designed 17 buildings, of wich 3 have been included amongst the most significant works of modern architecture. Comparable rather to living organisms then geometric shapes.

Antonio Gaudi: (1852-1926 Barcelona)

Very individualized. Sculptural poetic architecture. Inspired by and build in accordance with nature. Organic forms that refer to Art Noveau and a new Modernism of the times following the industrial revolution. The most famous of his constructions is the Sagrada Familia Church in Barcelona, that was to be dedicated to the holy family. In 1883, Antonio Gaudi was recommended to replace the original architect Francisco del Villar, who had resigned. At age 31, Antonio Gaudi undertook what became his life's work.

Edward Leedskalnin: (1887-1951 Florida)

Discovered anti gravity solutions and singlehandedly designed and constructed a multi ton coral/stone castle complex, so called “Coral Castle”. The only tool that Leedskalnin spoke of using was a "perpetual motion holder" So his amazing castle may hold clues to long lost powers and was compared to places like Stonehenge and the great Egyptian pyramids. What is most remarkable about the contents of the Coral Castle is the massive size of the stones and bricks used throughout the construction, all the more remarkable when one considers that one man assembled the entire site using only primitive tools.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser: (1928-2000 Austria)

His architectural style shows influences of Gaudies work. Irregular forms and for his time unusual ideas like colorful tiling, topping buildings with green growth and trees, have made him one of the pioneers for our modern times new age Architecture. Ahead of his time and miss-liking straight lines he integrates organic forms and irregular shapes into his artwork as well as into his architecture. Bright colors, natural features, spirals and “un-straight” structures of any kind express his creative freedom.

Heinz Isler: (1926-2009 Switzerland)

Best known for his amazing free-form shell structures, Heinz Isler has inspired both architects and engineers with his dazzling creations. Isler's primary medium of expression is the reinforced concrete shell. Isler's sensitivity for the natural world is expressed in the quiet beauty of the shell forms that he has designed, which merge more easily into the landscape than most modern buildings. He created structures of high efficiency with the lowest possible environmental impactand and was always searching for rather unconventional solutions.
